We always use 'an' before a vowel
Yes, this rule applies to words that begin with a vowel.
However, "Please choose an equipment" isn't correct English. "An" is singular, however equipment can't be quantifiable. The noun could be describing one singular piece of equipment, to an infinite amount of pieces.

Because equipment is uncountable, we cannot say ‘an equipment’ or ‘equipments’. To refer to a single item of equipment, we say a piece of equipment:
