Guide To Troubleshoot Game Lag

Hello there, Recently i have found many topics about game lag and how to solve it. So today i want to share my knowledge and experience with you guys to identify and fix game lag. Now i can not guarantee that it will fix your problem 100%. But in most cases, it might help you. It will be a bit big. so please bear with me. Lets begin.


What is PING
In game we always see either wifi or mobile bar identify our ping. So what is Ping.
Technically ping means Packet Internet Groper. Which is a utility used to verify whether or not a network data packet is capable of being distributed to an address without errors. Hard? Lemme explain in a simple way. Suppose you are knocking at the door, and your brother replied after a few seconds with this sentesne "who is it?" The time you knock and the time you get your reply is called ping. It is measured in seconds. If you do not get reply that means either your brother is sleeping or he is dead(joking). Anyway, In Network ping works same way. In MOBA games, ping is very important. As you are playing in real time, your command must be send quickly and the server must reply to your command as quickly as possible. In computer networking ping measured in miliseconds or ms.
What is LAG
When the players input or command transferring slowly to the game server, they player might face some issues. Like skill casting 0.5 or 1 secs later. Or even the game might freeze for 1-3 seconds. This is due to the players network. Which is slow or interrupting the players command data to send to game server. It is called LAG. In MOBA game ping is very important. That is why the ping always showing in game to monitor in real time. When lag occurs, your ping will go up like 200 plus, 285 or sometimes more.

Preperation
Now that we know about ping and lag, we can prepare ourselves to identify the issue first.

Step 1. If you are using Mobile Data, check your background activity before you preceed further. You can force stop some basic social app like Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Whatsapp, Viber, IMO, Snapchat etc to connect to Internet while you are playing. Go to settings>apps>then force stop them. I attached 2 picture in case you don't understand. Do not worry, they will be only freezing for temporarily. Whenever you open any of them, they weill work just fine. We are closing them because they can feed in your mobile data while you are playing and can slow down your network. Once it done, go to step 3.

Step 2.

If you are using wifi, make sure nobody using your wifi while you are playing Mobile Legends. You can either Tell them directly or you can disconnect them manually by login to your router. You can do that from your pc or your mobile. Many Brand router nowdays have mobile app by which you can control who can connect or not. I will not tell you details here but if you want to know how to configure and control your router, i will make seperate post. Once it done, go to step 3.

Step 3.

Make sure your android or ios is up to date or meet minimum system requirement for the game.
Update your game center to latest for ios users.
For android users, update your google play store and google play games app to the latest.
Then proceed to step 4.

Step 4

As i told you before, you may have a very good connection. Super fast download speed. But you still facing lag. To identify the problem, we will download a simple app called Ping. It is available on both Android and IOS. download link below.

After you download and install the app, please go to step 5.

Step 5.

Open the app. We will check some basic website ping. Why? Before we blaming MLBB for server lag issue, we really need to check if your ping is ok or not. So we will ping google.com and mobilelegends.com. We choose google cause we know its giant search engine, so it has 99.99% server uptime guarantee. And we will check mobilelegends webste to check if the server ping is ok or not.

A. in the app, click on host and Type www.google.com(ping 1 image) or www.mobilelegends.com (ping 3 image)
B. then click start. (ping 2 image)
C. You will see response from the server like this (ping 4 image) or (ping 5 image)
    That is your ping. check for any abnormality. Like if the ping up or down. ex:80 ms, 200 ms, 90 ms, 300 ms.
    if the ping is like 80 ms, 82 ms, 90 ms, 95 ms, 80 ms, 82 ms......
    Your connection is stable. Proceed to Step 6.
    If not,  switch to wifi if you are using mobile data and if you are using mobile data, switch to wifi.
Question: My ping is higher lower than google/mobilelegends ping. why?
Answer: This might happen due to server location. If your ping is higher than google ping means your game server is located far far away from google server. If your ping is lower than google, it means your game server is located closer than google server. This utility is just to check either your net connection is stable or not. Many users might identify the problem on this step.
Also you do not need to type the address everytime you enter the app, you can just select the drop down menu on the top right corner(ping 6 image) and select the address you want to ping. Also you can use Net Analyzer Pro(ping 7 and 8 image) as it is more sophisticated and you can even put command like iphois or trecert. For advanced users only.

Step 6.

Many of us should idtentify the cause of lag issue on step 4. Assuming that your net connecting is stable, your ping is stable . Now we can start step 5. Open the game. Make sure you downloaded all the resources.
A. Go to settings from the top right corner(Image gp1)
B. Go to Network Detection(image gp2)
C. Tap Detect(image gp3)
D. Now wait for 2-3 Minutes(image gp4)
E. After 2-3 minutes, you will get the result(Image gp5). Check it. Green means good, yellow means kinda ok, and red means bad)
If you still find lag after this procedure then.
F. Go to settings>Network Detection>Resource check and tap on check button (Image gp6)
G. After few seconds later, you will get the result like this (Image gp7). if you get an error, try to clear cache of the game.
how to do that? Go to your decice's settings>Apps>Mobile Legends Bang Bang>clear data and clear cache. Then open the game. the resource will be downloaded automatically. You can also perform clean installation if you wish.
H. If everything perfect, go to lobby and check your ping. (Image gp8)

Enjoy.

Most of the user will be able to solve their lag issue at this point(90%). But still some of us may not be getting good ping.
So what to do now. I will be a bit sceptical on this point.

1st reason is, you may be in playing with a friend who is in different country and different time zone. So if he host the room, you might face lag. Try to host the room or play solo, and it can fix the problem.

2nd reasonEverything is ok. Even in lobby you are getting good green ping. But in game ping is constant @285ms. If you experience this type of problem, please turn on your GPS. This will fix the cross server matchking issues.

3rd reason
There is a time called peak and off peak in IT. In peak time most of the users will be online. Either Mobile data or Wifi. Due to the traffic, you might face lage or ping drop issue. Normally for internet, peak time happens from 6 pm till 12 am(Total 6 hours). But it might vary from country to country. If you play MLBB in this time, you might face lag. Remember, in 90% cases the lag occurs from users end. It is not MLBB's fault. We blame MLBB cause we do not know how to fix this or cant identify the cause of the lag. And in 10% cases, there might be problem in game server. MLBB official will announce that there is a problem and they will be working to fix it as soon as possible. So there you go.

I know lag is a very common issue with us. Trust me i face lag so often also. But i still mananged to get good ping by following those steps i described so far. I hope these steps might help you to fix your lag issue. If you have any question or wanna know something, please copmment below.

My ping is constant at 284ms. I tried everything stated in the guide above but my ping is still constant at 284ms. Its very frustrating that Im dropping stars which is not entirely my fault.

useless i try this but not happening it still lag. and i know this is not my device or my connection. this is bad server mobile legend. because i playing another moba its everything okay. but why i playing mobile legend its so lag? and crash when midle game showing notification force close? its just BAD SERVER
